WEREWOLF MOVIES - The Hair Of The Dog.
When I think of werewolf movies I always think horror movies where during a full moon, a man is transforming into a hairy beast and their prey are humans! They could only be killed by a silver bullet. There have been various slight characteristic changes of these elements over the years. This monster is a product of myth and superstition.
EARLY FILMSWhile not the first appearance in this genre, this was the first full length feature released in 1935. The werewolf art is non existent which is very surprising for the Universal movie posters of the 1930's. Later re-issues had better artwork.
MONSTER DROUGHTIt was about 8 years between werewolf movies but it took a second tier double bill movie to get these monsters back on the silver screen. The genre didn't product a whole bunch of movies in the next two decades but there was less time in between movies.
THE MARK OF PAUL NASCHYThis film started a long line of these movies that featured the Spanish horror movie actor and director Paul Naschy. He also played other monsters such as Dracula, the Mummy, and a Hunchback.
1970's and 80's Few classics in this time period but the Howling released in 1981 was the first modern werewolf movie and thus created a movie horror franchise.
MODERN DAY Another version of the Wolf Man with Benicio del Toro (released in 2009)and directed by Joe Johnson is the latest edition of this monster. This is also released by Universal Studios.
